Description:
One of the four great Border Abbeys built during the 12th century. Home of the Cistercian Order in the reign of David I. Originally very plain, when it was rebuilt in the 15th century, it became very ornate. Much still standing. Reputed to be the burial place of the heart of Robert the Bruce.
The Commendator�s House close by houses artefacts and carvings which have been found over the years.

By car: situated in the town of Melrose.
